Charcoal / Dextran stripping reduces the concentration of steroid hormones in serum such as estradiol, progesterone, cortisol, testosterone, T3 and T4. This serum is usefull where there endogenous molecules may interfere with experimental works. This serum may show some reduced growth promotion ability for cells requiring the presence of certain hormones (Biblio: Northbio).

The IgG level in the fetal bovine serum is in general between 50 and 200mg/l, it is a low level compared to the other sera as the New Born Calf serum. However, this level can cause some problems for some utilisations, that is why we select the sera with a level < 5mg/l for the users.

Calcium Stripping :
The calcium depletion is achieved using chromatography columns (ion-exchange resin). This resin is selective for divalent cations over monovalent cations (It follows that copper, iron, magnesium, zinc etc. levels will be lowered too) .
