Mycokit

Image cat

Mollicutes are a class of very small bacteria (0.2-0.3µm), lacking a rigid cell wall and characterised by a small genome. They are parasites of various animals and plants, living on or in host cells. The best known genus of Mollicutes is Mycoplasma. Cell cultures can be contaminated by mycoplasmas. Mycoplasmas proliferate slowly and do not kill cells immediately but affect many cellular parameters,as limited cell growth or metabolism inhibition. Thus, contamination of cell cultures by mycoplasmas can have an impact on the reliability and reproducibility of results. This is why it is important to look for the presence of mycoplasma.

Mycokit is designed to detect the presence of mycoplasma contaminating biological materials, such as cultured cells. In general, mycoplasma detection by the usual culture procedure is time-consuming. With PCR testing, results are obtained within only a few hours, since the presence of contaminant mycoplasma can be detected simply by verifying the bands of amplified DNA fragments in electrophoresis.
