Karyotyping is a common method in human genetics to analyze chromosomes (metaphases) and detect abnormalities, such as trisomies and/or structural defects or other defects.
The classical karyotyping has proven successful in all areas of genetics over the years, from the prenatal diagnosis on the postnatal diagnostics to tumor cytogenetics. In particular in the classification, but also in the follow-up of tumor occurrence karyotyping has a relevant meaning.
